About me

About me

My name is Wernher Stoltz. When I started this blog I was a 61 years old, but time has moved on and I just turned 62. My weight loss and fitness journey is proof that life can start at 60. I lost 40 kilograms in 40 weeks and transformed myself from a couch potato into a fit cyclist who enjoys life to the full.  I also started walking long distances with my wife and our dogs and soon we are going to start rowing. People who didn’t see me for a while were astounded and started prompting me to tell my story. This means that I will have to show and tell things about myself that I am not particularly proud of because without the past I will not be able to tell the story of the present.

Me as the couch potato I was
Having a discussion on the same couch now a different person

I  have always been a huge man (read obese). Due to my length I could hide it by wearing loose clothes. What I couldn’t do, was get rid of the increasing pain and tiredness. Walking became very difficult as my feet couldn’t handle the massive weight that they had to carry all the time. I had to use chronic medication for blood pressure and rheumatic gout and also paid the price in increased life assurance premiums.

One day when I got into the bath I realised that I am not going to become very much older unless something changed drastically and I prayed a short prayer and promptly forgot about it.

About a year later I realised that my prayer was answered but in a very different way than I imagined. I had to do something and that something would become the answer to my prayer. I knew however that only a miracle would have moved me to embark on this journey and nothing would have motivated me to do so unless I changed my perspective. For the largest part of my life I led a life of inactivity and as I picked up weight this became more prevalent.

This blog will endeavour to tell my story as it unfolded and what motivated me and how I discovered new qualities in myself to endure and achieve the goals that I set out to achieve. In doing so, I hope to help countless people who are caught up in a body that is preventing them from being the complete people they can be and achieving incredible feats they never thought possible. I will start by covering a range of topics, starting with “Looking back”, “The moment of truth” and then move on with other topics covering “Motivation”, “Choosing your weapons” and more.

My journey told me that I can enhance the quality of my life, and benefits me in so many other ways. I am now mostly entirely pain free and steadily improving on a daily basis. I am using less medication for high blood pressure and gout, my insurance premiums  have been  re-assessed and reduced  by almost 100% as a result of my improved physical condition.

Walking is now effortless and I am cycling like a young man with dreams to do some incredible mountain biking trips world-wide in the time to come,

Enjoying cycling as a new passion

the first being a trip from Lauterbrünnen to Mürren in Switzerland. The route has been entered into my cycling computer, a climb of 1300 meters in 7 kilometers.

We also moved down to a coastal town with a wonderful tidal river where I would like to do some rowing with my wife. In addition we added some regular walks with our dogs in a nature reserve that runs along the Rocky Coast and beautiful beaches. These new activities just make life more interesting and even more enjoyable.

I therefore invite you to visit my blog daily and follow the incredible journey that I started and that I hope to continue one day at a time until I reached my final destiny when the Lord decides that my time has come. Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions for topics that you would like to see covered or drop me a mail if you need assistance with anything not covered. I will do my best to answer every question personally or include it in future blogs.
