A cold winter’s day of sunshine

My weight loss journey changed my life and makes me  do things that I never could’ve dreamt of.

Recently I told you how I entered my first ever mountain bike race. I showed you the pictures that were taken during the event by professional photographers but somehow it felt so isolated from reality and almost like I’m not telling the full story. I needed to bring you a bit closer to my world and what I am experiencing.

A while back, I got an older generation GoPro from my brother and mounted it on top of my helmet and did a couple of test rides to see what it looked like and turned out a bit disappointed with the resultant video material as it flattened the terrain and made the rocks we ride over look much smaller than they were. It was going to take some planning and maybe the right time of day with the sun shining out of just the right angles to make a video that would show a little bit of what we experience when we go for a ride on a trail.

After a recent component upgrade on my bike I was very eager to go and do a ride on one of our local trails and invited my friend Marius along. A sudden icy spell almost made us cancel but fortunately we decided to push through and last Saturday we  did a late afternoon ride on the trail at Tierpoort Adventure Farm.

With the GoPro On my helmet and the sun shining at a low angle, everything played together to capture at least some of the spirit of the day. There were a lot of very bad footage but so much that was good that I ended up making a little movie of the event that is perhaps way too long and may even be a bit boring for those not part of the experience.

So without saying too much more, here is my video of the experience. Let me know what you think by commenting.
